The country’s largest passenger terminal building (PTB) at the Port of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro is scheduled to open in March, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said.

The P353-million facility has a target completion date of February 18, 2023.

Based on the assessment of the Port Management Office (PMO) of Mindoro, construction work at the terminal is 17% ahead of schedule allowing for a March inauguration, according to PPA general manager Jay Santiago, who recently inspected the facility.

The Calapan port passenger terminal building can accommodate 3,500 passengers at any given time.

Engr. Elvis Medalla, Port Manager of PMO Mindoro, said passengers’ welfare was among the primary considerations in the construction of the PTB. Among its facilities are a prayer room, breastfeeding station, children’s playroom, clinic, and an elevator and escalator.
