The Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (CCBI) has been certified anew by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) as the only accredited integrated professional organization (AIPO) for customs brokers.

CCBI announced on August 4 that it has renewed its certification as the AIPO for customs brokers, with validity for three years or until July 2025.

The group obtained the accreditation after completing requirements in accordance with Republic Act 9280 (Customs Brokers Act of 2004) and RA 8981 (PRC Modernization Act of 2000).

The certificate was signed on July 18 by Professional Regulatory Board for Customs Brokers chairperson Samuel Bautista and approved by PRC chairperson Teofilo Pilando, Jr.

Under Section 31 (Accredited Professional Organization) of RA 9280, all professional customs brokers must have a national organization, which shall be recognized by the PRC Board as the one and only accredited professional organization of customs brokers.

A professional customs broker registered with the PRC automatically becomes a member of the AIPO and will receive benefits and privileges under that membership, according to Section 31 of RA 9280. Membership in the AIPO does not bar membership in other associations of customs brokers, the same section noted.

CCBI president Adones Carmona, in a text message to PortCalls, said CCBI being the AIPO brings the “prestige of being the organization regulated and authorized by PRC to represent licensed customs brokers.”

As of 2021, CCBI had more than 3,000 practicing customs brokers members and chapters in Manila, Batangas, Clark, Cebu, Subic, Davao, Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, and Zamboanga. – Roumina Pablo
