Strong imports and exports powered Cebu Ports Authority’s (CPA) international container operations last year.

For 2010, international containerized volume reached 202,213 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), up 13% from 178,879 TEUs handled in 2009.

Of the total, inbound cargoes accounted for 96,682 TEUs, higher by 8.9% compared with the 88,744 TEUs reported in the previous year.

Outbound cargoes increased to 105,531 TEUs from 90,135 TEUs.

For the same period in review, full container load swelled to 146,772 TEUs from 129,044 TEUs. At the same time, empties grew from 49,835 TEUs to 55,441 TEUs.

Full inbound cargoes were higher at 95,615 TEUs from 86,350 TEUs in 2009 while full outbound containers totaled 51,158 TEUs from 42,695 TEUs.

For 2010, CPA’s combined local and international containerized traffic reached 492,776 TEUs, down 0.70% from the previous year’s 496,264 TEUs.

Foreign containerized cargo comprised 41% of the total traffic and domestic operations, 59%. This compares with 2009’s 36% for foreign containerized cargo and 64% for domestic containerized cargo.
