Cebu Mitsumi Inc. broke ground on its latest expansion project — a ¥20 billion (P7.3 billion) production facility within the MRI Special Economic Zone in Danao City, Cebu.
The new 5,000-square-meter site will feature a Class 10,000 Clean Room and non-production areas dedicated to advanced manufacturing operations and will generate over 500 direct jobs.
Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) director deneral Tereso Panga, who led the groundbreaking ceremony on April 10, welcomed the investment, saying, “With its cutting-edge facilities and a workforce of more than 20,000 highly skilled Filipino employees here in its Danao facility, Cebu Mitsumi has played a critical role in advancing the electronics and automotive industries, making the Philippines a key player in the global supply chain.”
Cebu Mitsumi president Tatsuya Mori expressed appreciation for the Philippine government’s support and PEZA’s ease-of-doing-business measures.
Cebu Mitsumi, a subsidiary of Japan’s MinebeaMitsumi Group, has operated in the Philippines for 40 years and employs more than 20,000 Filipinos in Danao alone. It is one of the leading manufacturers of mechanical components and electronic devices.
It maintains a strong presence in sectors such as industrial, infrastructure, automotive, healthcare, robotics, and IT, with a strong focus on semiconductors and other advanced technologies.
The new facility supports MinebeaMitsumi’s global push in semiconductors, electric vehicles, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and advanced tech manufacturing.
The company has invested over P9.2 billion in the Philippines and employs more than 25,000 across facilities in Danao, Naga (Cebu), Sto. Tomas (Batangas), and Mariveles (Bataan), excluding its facilities in Mariveles, Bataan under the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan.
The ceremony was also attended by Consul General of Japan in Cebu Hideaki Matsuo, Danao City Mayor Thomas Durano, SMCC Philippines general manager Yoshiaki Sakaguchi, MinebeaMitsumi business officer for semiconductor Takashi Kume, JETRO Philippines executive director Kazuo Nakamura, and Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Foundation, Inc. president Dr. Dan Lachica.
