The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) and the municipal government of Medellin unveiled the P103.34 million seaport development project at the Port of Kawit in Medellin, Cebu.

The project funded through CPA’s corporate budget entailed the construction of a reinforced concrete (RC) deck expansion with a roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ramp, CPA said in a statement.

Completed in December 2024 by contractor Gonzalodo Enterprises and formally launched on February 19, the CPA said the expansion aims to improve the port’s functionality and accommodate increasing maritime traffic.

Formerly known as the Alpine Port, Port of Kawit is a vital gateway to Bantayan Island, Masbate City, and Biliran, Northern Samar.

The addition of a new RC deck and Ro-Ro ramp will allow the port to accommodate up to four vessels at any given time, addressing growing demand for both passenger and cargo services.

The CPA said the increased capacity is also expected to boost business opportunities, generate local employment, and contribute to the economic development of the province.

“We are thrilled to see this project come to fruition, as the Port of Kawit will now be able to accommodate more and larger vessels,” CPA general manager Francisco Comendador III said.

CPA has jurisdiction over all ports in Cebu, including Cebu baseport and its subports that are strategically located in different points of the province.
