CMA CGM Air Cargo launched its first transpacific route connecting Asia to North America  on August 25.

A brand-new B777-200F aircraft was used for the first commercial flight connecting Hong Kong to Chicago with a technical stop in Anchorage. On the westbound leg, the aircraft operates from Chicago to Hong Kong via Seoul.

Company officials said the delivery of the new B777-200F, operated by Atlas Air, will play a key role in the expansion of the CMA CGM Air Cargo network on a strategic route, serving Hong Kong, Chicago, and Seoul airports.

“The launching of this new route between Chicago and Hong Kong is a strategic milestone in the development of CMA CGM Air Cargo. We are very proud to extend (our) reach to the United States, a strategic country for the Group,” said Damien Mazaudier, CMA CGM Air Cargo chief executive officer, in a statement.

With its capacity and long range, the Boeing 777-200F (777 Freighter) is a twin-engine freighter aircraft regarded for its reliability, fuel efficiency, and lower maintenance and operating costs, delivering the most economical trip cost, the company said.

The aircraft asset claims a range of 9,200 km (4,970 nautical miles) and can carry a maximum payload of 103 tons (226,000 pounds).

“(The 777 Freighter) will allow us to serve our customers on new routes across the Pacific and to respond to dynamic market conditions,” Mazaudier added, underscoring the asset’s contribution to greater sustainability in airfreight.

Two additional B777-200F aircraft are expected for delivery in the coming months, further enhancing the airline capacity.

A second B777-200F is anticipated for delivery and deployment in the fourth quarter of 2024 on a transpacific route, connecting mainland China to North America.

The deployment of these two Boeing assets will benefit customers with a total of seven frequencies per week on the transpacific, CMA CGM said.

A third aircraft is also expected for delivery in 2025.
