CMA CGM’s revamped Japan-Philippines 8 (JP8) service, which started in March, marks the first regular international shipping connection between the Philippines and Sendai in Japan in eight years.
With this revamp, Sendai port and Omaezaki port have been newly added as ports of call in Japan, while Manila has been added in the Philippines. For the Chinese leg, Xiamen and Shantou were added.
The new JP8 rotation is Sendai-Tokyo-Omaezaki-Moji-Xiamen-Shantou-Shekou-Nansha-Subic-Batangas-Manila South-Sendai.
Multinational logistics company DP World, in a statement, said the revamped service strengthens its ability to support Japanese homebuilder Ichijo Komuten Co., Ltd.’s exports from the Philippines to Japan.
Ichijo’s operations in the Philippines produces high-quality prefabricated housing components for export to Japan through House Research Development, its local manufacturer and Nihon Sangyo, the company within the Ichijo Komuten Group that specialises in the procurement, logistics and distribution of these materials and components.
This comes amid growing demand for prefabricated housing across Asia Pacific, DP World noted.
“Our long-standing partnership with Ichijo reflects how we work alongside our customers to solve complex supply chain challenges,” DP World Asia Pacific chief executive officer and managing director Glen Hilton said.
“By combining our global network with deep local expertise, we are delivering solutions that are efficient, reliable and tailored to their needs. The JP8 service strengthens connectivity between Japan and the Philippines, while leveraging our terminals in Manila South Harbour and Batangas as key access points. Together, we are enabling a more seamless flow of materials that supports Ichijo’s growth and delivery timelines,” he added.
DP World’s local strategic partner in the Philippines, Asian Terminals Inc., operates Manila South Harbor and Batangas port.

DP World said by combining direct maritime connections with its integrated logistics capabilities, cargo can move more efficiently from port to production and on to market. It said its partner terminals in Manila and Batangas are supported by inland and marine solutions that help reduce congestion, improve transit times, and enhance visibility across the supply chain.
In Japan, DP World also supports the domestic movement of cargo to regional outports, ensuring seamless connectivity across both origin and destination markets.
