Clark International Airport (CRK) has welcomed Chinese carrier Shandong Airlines as its newest international cargo carrier, providing additional connectivity between Shenzhen and Clark.
The development supports Luzon International Premiere Airport Development Corp.’s (LIPAD) vision of transforming CRK into a premier logistics hub in the region, the private operator of CRK said in a social media post.
A subsidiary of flag-carrier China Airlines, the Shandong province-based carrier operates over 380 domestic, international, and regional routes. It has a fleet of more than 100 Boeing aircraft, mostly Boeing 737 series.
In a presentation at the recent 3rd Central Luzon Transport and Trade Conference 2025 hosted by PortCalls and Philippine Multimodal Transport and Logistics Association, Inc., LIPAD Traffic Development head Jasmin Reyes said CRK saw a 100% jump in cargo shipments for the first five months of the year to 35,903 tons due to the growth of cargo charters by China-based airlines handling e-commerce shipments.
Shandong Airlines joins other China-based carriers that now call on CRK, including YTO Cargo Airlines, China Postal Airlines, Central Airlines, Jiangsu Jingdong Cargo Airlines, and Tianjin Air Cargo.
Other freight operators in CRK are Skyway Airlines, FedEx, United Parcel Service, and Seair International.
In terms of destination, majority of cargoes originated from China, with Shenzhen accounting for 31% of volume followed by Guangzhou with 25% and Hubei with 13%.
Cargo flights at CRK also increased 45% year-on-year in the first five months of the year to 2,522 flights.
From five destinations pre-pandemic, CRK now has 12 destinations with 70 weekly flights.
The Clark Civil Aviation Complex in Pampanga—where CRK is situated—is being set to become a global hub for logistics and aviation services
