Global logistics company Damco has opened a new warehouse in Semarang, Central Java, its fourth in Indonesia and its second in Semarang.

Damco Indonesia’s newest container freight station (CFS) is located less than 2 kilometers from the Semarang international seaport. It will provide cargo services  for the growing footwear and apparel industry in Central Java, said the company.

The facility, provided by warehouse operator Monang Sianipar Abadi, has three chambers, two of which are exclusively for Damco’s use.

Work is currently ongoing to make the new warehouse meet supply chain security standards, the transformation expected to be completed within the next year.

Meanwhile, Hanne Sorensen, 48, has been appointed CEO of Damco, the freight-forwarding unit within Maerk’s Services & Other Shipping division. She will be taking over effective January 1, 2014 from Rolf Habben-Jansen, who announced his departure in September 2013.

Currently CEO of Maersk Tankers, Sorensen has been with the Maersk group for 19 years. She will report to Morten Engelstoft, the newly appointed CEO of Services & Other Shipping.
