Damco warehouseThird-party logistics company Damco has opened a new warehouse in northern Vietnam to serve the fashion and retail industries in the area.

The 8,000-square-meter distribution center will be further expanded to more than 20,000 square meters over the next three years in anticipation of increased trade between northern Vietnam and southern China.

The facility, a partnership with Vietnamese warehouse owner HTM, is located in Haiphong, the third largest city of Vietnam and northern Vietnam’s most important seaport.

“Key for us also will be the growth of our domestic business such as customs clearance and trucking services, together with our planned warehousing footprint expansion. The latter is based on new business opportunities related to our business and contract logistics customers,” said Marco Civardi, area managing director of Damco Vietnam/Cambodia.

Damco, a global logistics provider within the Maersk group of companies, specializes in customized freight forwarding and supply chain solutions. In 2013, it had a net turnover of US$3.2 billion, managed 2.8 million TEUs of ocean freight and distribution volumes, and air-freighted more than 225,000 tonnes.
