A court decision dismissing a Poro Point Freeport Zone (PPFZ) land claim will pave the way for the revitalization of San Fernando seaport and the comprehensive enhancement of PPFZ, the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) said in a statement.
The Regional Trial Court of San Fernando in La Union recently junked the petition for land registration filed by Shipside, Inc. over a parcel of land within PPFZ.
BCDA welcomed the ruling, noting “This legal affirmation strengthens BCDA’s mandate over the property and paves the way for the continued advancement of its strategic development initiatives in PPFZ properties.”
The 236.5-hectare PPFZ, formerly known as the US Wallace Air Station, is operated and managed by Poro Point Management Corp. (PPMC), a subsidiary of BCDA.
“The court’s decision marks a critical milestone in unlocking the full potential of Northern Luzon. With PPFZ poised to become a key hub for tourism, logistics, and investment, the region is set to benefit from increased economic activity and long-term growth,” BCDA added.
BCDA said central to this vision is the San Fernando seaport, which continued operation and planned upgrades “are vital to generating jobs, supporting livelihoods, and driving inclusive progress in the local community.”
Since early 2025, the seaport has been under temporary control of BCDA and PPMC. The agreement became necessary after previous operator Poro Point Industrial Corp. signified its intention to cease operations after their contract expired on Oct. 31, 2024.
