Domestic air freight grew 26.5% in the first half of 2025 to 138.532 million kilograms from 109.492 million kg in the same period last year, according to latest data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).
The figures are sourced from eight airlines. Of the eight, five posted year-on-year increases while three recorded declines in January to June 2025.
Cebu Pacific continued to account for the biggest share of the total, handling 62.662 million kg or a 45.2% share. The low-cost carrier’s first half figures are also 42% higher than the 44.121 million kg posted in the same period last year.
PAL Express remained in second place with 31% or 42.942 million kg, 2.8% higher than the 41.779 million kg in the first half of last year.
Philippine Airlines (PAL) was in third with 18.433 million kg, 13.3% of the total and a whopping 123.8% increase from the 8.238 million kg recorded in the first half of last year.
Down to fourth place with a 6.2% share was AirAsia Philippines, which saw a 1.6% decline to 8.762 million kg from 8.902 million kg.
Ranking fifth still was boutique airline AirSwift with 1.5% or 2.071 million kg, a 30% drop from 2.962 million kg.
Charter airline Island Aviation remained at sixth handling 1.619 million kg, a 1.3% hike from 1.597 million kg.
All-cargo airline Seair International, which carried 17.6% more at 1.248 million kg from 1.061 million kg, remained in seventh place.
Lastly, Cebgo was still at eighth place with 794,209 kg, down 3.8% from 825,599 kg last year.
In terms of passengers, AirAsia, AirSwift, Cebgo, Cebu Pacific, Island Aviation, PAL, PALEx, Sunlight Air, and Royal Air Charter Service Inc. handled 17.384 million in the first half of the year, 10.2% higher than the 15.768 million recorded in the same half last year. – Roumina Pablo
