Members of the Philippine Liner Shipping Association (PLSA) are offering free freight pier-to-pier transport of relief goods to help in relief efforts for families affected by the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Cebu on September 30.
The free service was committed by PLSA members 2GO Group, Inc.; Gothong Southern Shipping Lines, Inc.; Lorenzo Shipping Corp.; Moreta Shipping Lines, Inc.; Oceanic Container Lines, Inc.; and Philippine Span Asia Carrier Corp. (PSACC), and Trans-Asia Shipping Lines, Inc.
Relief goods that can be transported for free from Manila North Harbor to Cebu port include food packs, canned goods, rice, ready-to-eat meals, noodles, drinking water, biscuits, bread, clothing, personal protective equipment, hygiene kits, toiletries, sleeping materials, medicine, cooking utensils, footwear, even toys for children, PLSA said in an advisory signed by president Mark Matthew Parco on October 1.
The shipping group asks donors/senders of relief cargoes to ensure that they are properly and safely packed, with clearly identified name, address and contact details of consignee or receiving personnel at the Cebu port.
PLSA noted that cargoes may be subject to inspection and that cargo acceptance is subject to space availability.
“This is our small effort to help in the disaster response and relief as we join hands with the government and the private sector. You are not alone Cebu. PLSA will remain to be one with you and with our other kababayans in need,” the group said.
Relief goods will be received Mondays to Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The list of contact person(s) and contact details per shipping line are as follows:

The earthquake struck Cebu’s northern tip near Bogo City at 9:59 p.m. on September 30, causing massive infrastructure damage and power outage in several areas. As of noon of October 1, the death toll from the earthquake was at 69.
Operations at Cebu International Port and Mactan-Cebu International Airport are already back to normal.
