The Department of Transportation (DOTr) signed two projects for the pilot digitalization at two international airports and for future projects on sustainability by local carriers.

DOTr and Türkiye-based aviation technology company TAV Technologies on July 12 signed the non-disclosure agreement for the Airport Operational Database (AODB) in Davao International Airport and General Santos International Airport.

The project aims to digitalize airport operations by implementing an AODB to streamline the manual process in Philippine airports, DOTr said in a statement.

According to TAV, an AODB is the “heart” of airport operations management, integrating airport control systems, airport resource allocation, and airport invoicing systems. It works as a central database hub for each flight-related information on a real-time basis.

TAV said its AODB is a central repository for operational flight data management. It stores, distributes, and manages all seasonal and real-time flight data. Additionally, the system transforms all aeronautical and non-aeronautical services data into accurate financial figures quickly and coherently.

The NDA was signed by DOTr undersecretary for aviation and airports Roberto Lim, Civil Aeronautics Board executive director Carmelo Arcilla, and TAV head of sales and business development Aziz Can Aksoyek.

Also on July 12, Lim and agribusiness company Kennemer Foods International chief executive officer Simon Bakker signed a declaration of intent for future projects with the country’s airlines.

DOTr said the projects will involve sustainability by certifying carbon credit units to be used by Philippine air carriers for their carbon offsetting compliance.
