Philippine Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. national president Anthony Cristobal during the chamber’s 32nd National Convention on November 29.

The Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (CCBI) has officially changed its name to Philippine Chamber of Customs Brokers, Inc. (PCCBI).

The Securities and Exchange Commission approved the name change on November 13, following the chambers Board’s approval on the amendment of its Articles of Incorporation on November 28, 2023.

PCCBI trustee and former national president Ferdinand Nague, during the chamber’s recent 32nd National Convention, said the name change will bring “international stature… and dignity, prominence to Filipino customs brokers,” especially when the organization’s officers or its members represent the chamber overseas and in international events.

The initiative to change the organization’s name started during Nague’s term.

PCCBI national president Anthony Cristobal, in a chance interview with PortCalls at the sidelines of PCCBI’s recent 32nd National Convention, said the name change is also a significant move as they aim to be awarded as an outstanding accredited integrated professional organization (AIPO) by the Professional Regulation Commission. This year, PCCBI was a runner up under Category B of the award, which is given to the AIPO that demonstrated distinguished service to their professionals, to PRC in its programs and activities, to the communities and other sectors through their corporate social responsibility, and to the Filipino nation.

Aside from the name change, PCCBI also implemented several initiatives, such as creation of a Committee on Professional Responsibility and Discipline, an improved website that now includes an online Continuing Professional Development Accreditation System, a standardized Certificates of Good Standing, and a new satellite office at the Port of Manila, among others.

PCCBI also expanded its chapters, the newest of which is Western Visayas-Iloilo. Other chapters also include Bataan, Batangas, Bicol, Bohol, CARAGA, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Northern Luzon, Northern Mindanao, Southwestern Mindanao, Subic-Clark, and its first international chapter in Singapore.

Cristobal said they aim to establish more chapters, especially in areas where the Bureau of Customs has a collection district. They are also looking at establishing another overseas chapter in Dubai, where he said other Filipino customs brokers also practice. – Roumina Pablo
