FedEx Express is boosting direct connectivity between its Cebu and its gateway facility in Clark to support growing cross-border e-commerce trade in the country.

FedEx strengthened its intra-Asia connectivity recently by launching eight new flights from its gateway in Clark to Japan, Singapore, and South Korea, providing customers with direct connections between the North Pacific and Southeast Asian markets.

As a result, customers in Cebu can now take advantage of a two-hour improvement in their cut-off time and 24/7 Customs clearance support in Clark, FedEx said.

With growing cross border e-commerce, Philippine exports are expected to reach P600 billion by 2030, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority. Cebu has always been one of the major players in the Central Visayas region, exporting various goods such as furniture, food, fashion accessories, toys, shellcraft, garments, etc.

“Cebu is an economic powerhouse in the south and is one of the Philippines’ busiest economic and tourism gateways,” FedEx Express Philippines acting managing director Maribeth Espinosa said.

“FedEx is focused on helping customers tap greater import and export intra-[Asia Pacific] opportunities, and this service enhancement further demonstrates our strong commitment to providing efficient cross-border logistics solutions to Cebu businesses, and support the growing trade to and from the Philippines.”

FedEx said customers from the Queen City of the South will also receive the support of dedicated customer service team representatives who can guide them through their shipping experience in their local language.

Businesses with heavyweight shipments weighing 150 pounds (68 kilograms) or more can also leverage on the improved connectivity, with transit time of 1-3 business days.

FedEx launched its gateway facility in Clark in 2021 to boost support for businesses and the growing e-commerce market in the country.

The 17,000-square-meter facility enables faster processing with the capability to sort 9,000 parcels per hour. It also has an expansive dedicated freight-handling area that spans 630 sqm.

In November 2019, FedEx announced it would expand its operations in Clark after the company moved its Asian hub from Subic, Zambales, in 2009 to China. The Clark facility was originally scheduled for launching in April 2021 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
