The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently met with Federal Express Corp. (FedEx) to discuss the company’s expansion plans in Clark, Pampanga.
DTI in a social media post said FedEx provided updates on its “Philippine Gateway Expansion project, which aims to enhance cargo handling efficiency and operational capacity to support growing trade volumes.”
The discussion also explored how the company can contribute to advancing the Philippines’ international trade agenda, including support for new trade agreements and expanded market access, DTI said.

In a separate LinkedIn post, FedEx Philippines managing director Maribeth Espinosa said they appreciate the support of government agencies such as DTI as they “formalize plans to expand the FedEx Philippine Gateway facility in Clark.”
“This planned expansion is a strategic investment in our regional infrastructure, enhancing transshipment capabilities and supporting the continued rise of e‑commerce, freight traffic, and specialized shipments across Southeast Asia. It will further strengthen our operational efficiency and help Philippine customers connect more seamlessly with markets across the region and beyond,” Espinosa said.
Earlier, Bases Conversion and Development Authority president and chief executive officer Joshua Bingcang was quoted in media reports that FedEx is expanding its current facility in Clark and will spend more than $200 million.
In 2024, FedEx signed an agreement with Clark International Airport (CRK) operator Luzon International Premiere Airport Development (LIPAD) to expand its gateway in Clark to more than double the size of its current facility.

FedEx earlier said the new facility will facilitate operations, enabling better cargo handling and fostering growth in the logistics sector.
The gateway will further boost support for importers and exporters, including small-and-medium enterprises and heavy-weight freight shippers, with greater and more reliable access to and from international markets as well as support the growing demand for e-commerce, freight, and cold-chain shipments across the Asia Pacific region, it added.
The expansion aligns with the vision of BCDA and LIPAD to transform CRK into a premier global civil aviation logistics hub for international cargo, the express operator said.
In October 2021, FedEx first unveiled its gateway in Clark to boost support for local businesses and e-commerce growth. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the 17,000-square-meter facility has the capability to sort up to 9,000 parcels per hour and enables FedEx to provide customers with reliable service more efficiently. The facility’s dedicated freight-handling area spans 630 square meters.
