Five new LRT 1 stations were inaugurated today (Nov 15) under the first phase of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite Extension Project.
The first phase extends the existing line to 26 kilometers from 20km.
The five new stations are Redemptorist-ASEANA, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue, and Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat).
The extension is expected to reduce travel time from Parañaque City to Quezon City by almost an hour and service an additional 80,000 passengers to LRT 1’s daily ridership of 323,000.
Once complete, the entire stretch of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Project will reduce travel time
from Baclaran in Parañaque to Bacoor, Cavite to 25 minutes.
“Commuters will now see a great reduction in their travel time, allowing them to spend more time with their loved ones. By serving commuters across Metro Manila, Cavite, and neighboring areas, the whole project creates a smoother, more reliable mode of transport,” President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. said in a statement during the inauguration.
Aside from promoting mobility and connectivity for passengers, the Department of Transportation said the completion of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project will usher in opportunities for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) for the cities of Pasay and Parañaque.
LRT 1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) earlier said all stations are designed with accessibility in mind, featuring elevators, escalators, and tactile guides to cater to the needs of persons with special needs.
By 2029, LRT-1 is expected to service 650,000 passengers daily, according to LRMC president and chief executive officer Enrico Benipayo.
