Contecon Guayaquil S.A. de C.V. (CGSA), International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) Ecuadorian business unit, has signed a new commercial agreement to further strengthen the Port of Guayaquil’s connectivity with the Asian market.
The agreement for the Asia-South America (ASA) service brings back five shipping lines and their shippers’ customer base to the terminal. These shipping lines are Wan Hai, Pacific International Lines, Cosco, Evergreen and Yang Ming.
ICTSI in a statement said the agreement underscores “the confidence of major international carriers in Contecon Guayaquil’s modern infrastructure, operational efficiency, and robust security.”
The ASA service used to call at Contecon Guayaquil until 2015, recommencing in the first week of November.
Last September, CGSA also forged a partnership with Cosco Shipping Specialized Carriers to handle the latter’s general cargo ships at the Port of Guayaquil for the next three years.
ICTSI in March 2007 was awarded by the port authority of Guayaquil, Autoridad Portuario de Guayaquil (APG), a 20-year operating concession for the Container and Multipurpose Terminals in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Later in May, a contract was formally signed between APG and Contecon Guayaquil SA, ICTSI’s local operating unit. The terminal handles containerized, general and bulk cargo.
