port_of_shanghaiKawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line) is introducing this month an intra-Asia containership service giving new direct connections between China and Southeast Asia.

The China Saigon Indonesia Services (CSI) will have direct port coverage from China to Vietnam and Indonesia. “K” Line said this service provides faster transit time especially to Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and to Jakarta and Semarang in Indonesia, as well as offers an expanded service network.

“K” Line said it will deploy four 2,500-TEU owned ships with a port rotation of Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Semarang, Xiamen, and Qingdao.

The service begins December 26, 2016.

Meanwhile, CMA CGM will add a new call in New Orleans to its PEX3 service, which directly connects the American ports of the Gulf of Mexico, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

With this new call, the carrier said it offers a direct connection to Asia from New Orleans, “with the best transit times on the market.” From New Orleans, Singapore and Shanghai will be reached in 38 and 47 days, respectively.

The PEX3 service will have its first call in New Orleans on January 31, 2017.

The eleven 5,000- to 5,900-TEU-capacity vessels will operate this new rotation: Houston, Mobile, New Orleans, Miami, Jacksonville, Singapore, Hong Kong, Chiwan, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, and Houston.
