Lite Shipping Corporation is set to expand its fleet with the launch of M/V Lite Ferry Ten, a brand-new roll-on/roll-off passenger (ropax) vessel, on February 28.
The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has granted the vessel pioneering status for the Cebu City – Tagbilaran City – Larena, Siquijor – Plaridel, Misamis Occidental route.
Built in China and completed in 2024, M/V Lite Ferry Ten is a 72-meter-long vessel with a depth of 4.50 meters and a breadth of 16.80 meters. It has a gross registered tonnage (GRT) of 3,390 tons and can carry 500 passengers in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned accommodations.
For cargo transport, the vessel can accommodate 20 ten-wheeler trucks plus 10 cars and operates at a service speed of 11-12 knots. It is classed by RINA, a multinational company based in Genoa, Italy that provides engineering, testing, inspection, and certification services.
Lite Shipping Corp operates under the brand Lite Ferries.
The launch, to be held onboard the vessel at Tagbilaran Port, will be attended by Bohol Governor Erico Aristotle Aumentado, Cong. Zaldy S. Villa of Siquijor, and Tagbilaran Mayor Jane C. Yap, along with MARINA representatives, Philippine Ports Authority, Cebu Port Authority, Philippine Coast Guard and other government officials.
Lite Ferries continues its fleet modernization program, operating one of the youngest ferry fleets in the country. Nearly half of its vessels were acquired brand new, and one-fourth were purchased at less than 20 years old upon acquisition.
With its tagline, “Bridging Islands, Connecting Lives,” Lite Ferries now connects Bohol to 32 destinations, including Sorsogon, Samar, Northern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Negros Occidental, Siquijor, Surigao del Norte, Agusan del Norte, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga del Norte.
