Local air carriers ship 0.3% less cargo in first sem

Local air carriers shipped 0.3% less cargo in the first half to 109.492 million kilograms from 109.815 million kg posted in the same period last year, according to preliminary data from the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB).

Of the nine local carriers in CAB’s list, five airlines saw an increase in air cargoes handled while four reported declines.

Cebu Pacific continued to contribute the biggest share with 40.3% or 44.121 million kg, 9.5% higher than the 40.2933 million kg the low-cost carrier handled in the first half of 2023.

PAL Express (PALEx) followed with 41.779 million kg or a share of 38.2%. PALEx also carried 15.5% more than the 36.171 million kg it recorded in the first semester of last year.

AirAsia Philippines placed third with a share of 8.1% or 8.902 million, which was down 13.9% from 13.067 million kg.

Ranking fourth was Philippine Airlines (PAL) with 8.238 million kg or a share of 7.5%. PAL’s first-half cargo traffic was, however, a 47.2% decline from the 15.59 million kg recorded in the same period last year.

Boutique airline AirSwift Transport, Inc. placed fifth accounting for 2.7% of the total or 2.962 million kg, up 39% from 2.129 million kg last year.

Sixth placer charter airline Island Aviation Corp. handled 1.597 million kg, a surge of 168.7% from 594,563 kg in the first half of last year.

Leisure airline Seair International ranked seventh with 1.061 million kg, a 7% drop from 1.142 million kg last year.

In eight place was Cebgo with 825,599 kg, an increase of 4.4% from 791,113 kg.

Lastly, boutique charter airline Sunlight Express Airways handled 7,033 kg, 81.5% down from 37,999 kg last year. – Roumina Pablo
