Lower airfares may be expected in October as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) cut the fuel surcharge for next month.
In an advisory, the CAB reduced the fuel surcharge to Level 4 for October, from Level 5 this month. At Level 4, the passenger fuel surcharge ranges from Php117 to Php 342 and Php385.70 to Php2,867.82 for domestic and international flights, respectively.
For cargoes, Level 4 rates range from P0.60 per kilogram (kg) to P1.76 per kg on a one-way domestic flight, and from P1.98 per kg to P14.74 per kg on a one-way international flight.
The fuel surcharge rate for next month is the lowest since August of last year. Before this, the fuel surcharge level were at either Levels 5 and 6 only this year.
Airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for October must file their application with CAB on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the stated level. For fuel surcharge to be collected in the equivalent currency, the applicable conversion rate for the period is $1 is to P56.67.
CAB in May 2022 adopted CAB Resolution No. 25, which provides the revised policy on fuel surcharges, which now includes a matrix for cargo. The fuel surcharge matrix ranges from Level 0 to 20.
