  • The new minimum fare for LRT 1 is P14 and the maximum is P35 for stored value cards
  • LRT-2’s new rate for SVCs is P14 and maximum is P35

The Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 will collect higher fares starting August 2, 2023.

The new minimum fare for LRT-1 is P14 from the current P12 and a maximum fare of P35 for stored value cards (SVCs) from P30, according to LRT-1 operator and maintenance provider Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC).

Single journey tickets (SJTs) will range from P15 to P35 from P15 to P30.

“Based on the decision of DOTr’s Rail Regulatory Unit (RRU), the LRT-1 boarding fare will become P13.29 with a distance fare of P1.21 per kilometer, coming from the current boarding fare of P11 and distance fare of P1 per kilometer,” LRMC said in a statement on Monday, July 31.

LRT-2’s fare increase was announced by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Facebook.

The line’s new minimum fare is P14 from P12, and the maximum is P33 from P28. The minimum fare for SJTs will remain at P15 while the maximum will increase to P35 from P30.

The fare increase for LRT-2 is also based on the fare adjustment approved by the RRU for LRT-1.

DOTr said the fare hike will be used to improve facilities and services of LRT-2. The last approved fare adjustment for the line was 2015.

Students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities will continue to enjoy a 20% discount.

In June, the DOTr approved the fare increase for both LRT-1 and LRT-2 and said the hike will cut government subsidy for fares by around 3%.

Transport Assistant Secretary for Railways Sector Jorjette Aquino said the actual cost per passenger of a single end-to-end trip at the LRT-2 is about P178. Passengers are only charged P30, she said.
