Maayo Ship Building and Ship Repairs, Inc., with full support from the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), is expected to complete its first commercial vessel, MARTIN 10, before the end of this year, signaling a significant step forward in the technical capacity of Philippine shipyards.
The vessel – being constructed at the Maayo’s shipyard in Tampi, San Jose, Negros Oriental – is being built based on MARINA-approved preliminary plans and is under the oversight of the MARINA-Accredited Classification Society, Ocean Register of Shipping Inc.
MARINA administrator Sonia Malaluan recently visited the Maayo facility to meet with shipyard personnel and review updates on the project.
Malaluan said the initiative aligns with the proposed Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Development Bill, which seeks to modernize and expand the Philippines’ shipbuilding and ship repair sector.

She highlighted that the MARTIN 10 project demonstrates “the vast potential of local shipyards and the promising growth to support the modernization of domestic shipping.”
The company thanked MARINA for its continued guidance and reiterated its commitment to constructing safe, high-quality vessels that meet national standards, while fostering employment and development opportunities in the local community.
