The Maersk Logistics Park at Jeddah Islamic Port was inaugurated on August 21 by A.P. Moller–Maersk and the General Ports Authority of Saudi Arabia (Mawani).

The 225,000-square meter logistics park in Saudi Arabia is touted as the largest single-site logistics and services facility in the Middle East, according to a Maersk statement.

The facility is the largest logistics investment of Maersk globally, representing an investment of 1.3 billion riyals, and is one of ten logistics zones at Jeddah Islamic Port being developed by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services in partnership with the private sector.

The inauguration was led by Kingdom of Saudi Arabia officials HRH Prince Saud bin Mishaal; His Excellency the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser; and His Excellency the President of the General Authority of Ports Omar Hariri, along with Maersk chief executive officer Vincent Clerc; Maersk Indian Subcontinent, Middle East and Africa managing director Richard Morgan; and Maersk Saudi Arabia managing director Mohammad Shihab.

“Foreign investment flows in this sector have exceeded 10 billion riyals, which contributes to supporting economic growth, knowledge transfer, providing more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs in the sector and strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub,” said H.E. Al-Jasser, who is also Board Chairman of the General Ports Authority.

“(T)he transport and logistics system will work with the support of His Highness the Crown Prince to continue achieving the ambitious achievements and targets of the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics in accordance with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030,” the Saudi high official added.

H.E. Hariri noted the strategic significance of the Maersk logistics park in supporting the growth of KSA’s logistics industry and economic and development activity, citing its “smart” logistics solutions that link and facilitate export movement and support supply chains, which enhance operational performance in ports as well as the capabilities of the Saudi logistics sector and global trade.

“The zone also operates according to an advanced warehouse management system that applies modern technologies and digital solutions to manage inventory efficiently, in addition to applying the latest security technologies to ensure the security and safety of the area, its workers, as well as customers’ goods,” Mawani officials said.

The Maersk logistics park includes storage and distribution areas, accommodations for exports and imports of general goods, warehouses to billet refrigerated food products, in addition to a re-export and freight forwarding area “LCL”, an e-commerce implementation center, and an in-house women’s academy that offers training programs aimed at providing job opportunities at its facility for women, contributing to gender diversity in the workplace.

“The Maersk Logistics Park…is a testament to our commitment to be an enabler of global trade in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which sits strategically at the crossroads of three continents,” said Maersk CEO Clerc. “I am proud to see that our Logistics Park in Jeddah has become a living example of our integrated logistics strategy, supporting our customers with resilient logistics while implementing the right initiatives to take our decarbonisation journey forward,” he added.
