A.P. Moller-Maersk (Maersk) has opened its largest contract logistics facility in Asia-Pacific, the Maersk Mega Distribution Centre (DC) in Shah Alam, Malaysia, expanding its warehouse footprint in the country by more than 30%.

“Domestic consumption has been buoyant, and we’re seeing increasing opportunities to support businesses across diverse industry sectors in Malaysia,” Elaine Low, area managing director for Southeast Asia at Maersk, said in a press release

The 180,000-square-meter building, with 100,000 pallet positions, is designed as a multi-client warehouse catering to diverse industries such as fast-moving consumer goods, food and beverage, footwear, and apparel.

“This facility marks one of Maersk’s most significant milestone investments in Asia-Pacific and stands among our largest contract logistics sites globally,” said Kee Seng Chang, head of Maersk Contract Logistics Asia-Pacific.

“[It] reinforces our integrated capabilities to deliver reliable, flexible supply chains and modern, automated solutions that will help customers scale and reach local consumers more effectively,” he added.

The Mega DC site connects directly to major highways, including the North–South Expressway, ELITE Highway, and Shah Alam Expressway, providing seamless access to industrial zones, Port Klang, and Kuala Lumpur International Airport. It is also positioned about 340 kilometers from the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Maersk’s key transshipment hub in Asia.

The facility serves as a vital hub for fast and reliable distribution across Asia-Pacific, linking overseas cargo directly to retailers and consumers through integrated warehousing and last-mile delivery.

Daily trucking routes connect major cities such as Ipoh, Penang, Johor, Malacca, and Kota Bharu, while multimodal options ensure access to East Malaysia and broader Asian markets.

Malaysia Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the facility supports the country’s logistics ambitions.

“The connectivity of Maersk’s Mega Distribution Centre is critical to enabling efficient movement of goods across the country and the region, aligning with Malaysia’s Logistics and Trade Facilitation Masterplan and bringing us closer to making Malaysia the ‘Logistics Gateway to Asia’,” he said.

Equipped with advanced automation systems, including autonomous mobile robots, put-to-light technology, and an automated storage and retrieval system, the warehouse aims to shorten lead times, improve accuracy, and enhance operational efficiency.

It is also fitted with Maersk’s transport management system that enables real-time shipment tracking for greater visibility and control. It also offers value-added services including tagging, labelling, re-packing, returns handling, quality checks, and disposal.

The facility also features Maersk’s warehouse management system and electronic data interchange for real-time inventory visibility and system integration, bonded and non-bonded storage with on-site Customs officers for faster clearance.

Certified with a Green Building Index Gold and LEED Gold, the warehouse incorporates sustainable features such as solar rooftop panels, smart LED lighting, and rainwater harvesting systems. Safety is reinforced with forklift safety technology, fire protection systems, and 24/7 CCTV surveillance.

Maersk, a global integrated logistics leader operating in more than 130 countries with about 100,000 employees, is targeting net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 across its entire business through new technologies and cleaner fuels.
