The first of two new Boeing 777F planes was recently delivered to Maersk Air Cargo, the first to be owned by a Danish airline. It was delivered to Maersk’s home airport Billund in Denmark.

In a statement, Maersk said its air freight customers in China and Europe will benefit from the increased capacity and efficiency with the introduction of the two aircraft.

Both 777Fs will be deployed in Maersk’s existing China-Europe route, initially with three weekly flights. This will later be increased up to six weekly flights.

Aside from the increased capacity on direct routes, the new aircraft will guarantee shorter transit times along with faster handling times.

Maersk placed the order for the two aircraft in November, 2021 as part of the company’s modernization plan. The delivery of the second plane is set for the third quarter of this year.

With the two new aircraft, Maersk Air Cargo-owned fleet will be comprised of 20 Boeing 767F and two Boeing 777F planes.

Lars Jordahn, head of Maersk Air Cargo, said: “With this step, we are entering the premier league of cargo aviation.”

From a commercial perspective, the two new planes “are a giant leap in terms of what we can offer our air freight customers going forward,” said Narin Phol, executive vice president and chief product officer for logistics and services at Maersk.

He added that “our 777Fs will improve the availability of space for our customers as we see a growing demand for integrated supply chain solutions which include air.”

The Boeing 777F can fly up to 9,200 kilometers and carry a maximum payload of 102,000 kilograms. The main deck fits pallets up to three meters high, and all cargo decks are temperature controlled.

Maersk Air Cargo is part of the global integrator of logistics, A.P. Moller–Maersk.
