Atty. Agaton Teodoro Uvero is returning to his previous post as deputy commissioner for the Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group at the Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. on June 30, he replaced Vener Baquiran.
Before his BOC appointment, Uvero was assistant secretary in charge of the Fair Trade Group at the Department of Trade and Industry.
His appointment comes as Ariel Nepomuceno took his oath as the new customs commissioner on June 30. Uvero and Nepomuceno were part of the BOC reform team appointed by the late President Benigno Aquino III. Uvero was BOC deputy commissioner from 2013 to 2016.
He was previously senior partner at Worldtrade Consultants and chairman of Grupo Uvero, Inc. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers Consulting. He is author of the book “Understanding International Trade, Tariff and Customs” printed by Asia Customs & Trade, a sister publication of PortCalls. He also wrote a column for PortCalls, Across Borders.
Other appointments
Marcos also appointed Romeo Allan Rosales as deputy commissioner for Intelligence Group and retired police brigadier general Nolasco Bathan as deputy commissioner for the Enforcement Group.
Rosales held various positions at BOC, including district collector of the ports of Cebu and Manila International Container Port. He will replace Juvymax Uy.
Bathan is taking over from Teddy Sandy Raval. Bathan held various positions at the Philippine National Police and its regional offices prior to his retirement in 2021.
Thomas Narcise has been appointed director of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service. He will replace Verne Enciso. – Roumina Pablo
