President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on August 27 issued two proclamations creating and designating a building on a parcel of land in Iloilo City as a special economic zone (SEZ) and expanding the Lima Technology Center-SEZ in Batangas.
Marcos issued Proclamation Nos. 668 and 670 upon the recommendation of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority’s (PEZA) board of directors. The proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
According to PEZA’s Facebook post, Marcos designated The Grid — a building with a 7,021.88-square-meter gross floor area in Mandurriao, Iloilo City — as a special ecozone under Proclamation No. 668.
The Grid is located at Donato Pison Avenue in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao, Iloilo City, within the 2,334-square-meter property where it stands.
“Proclamation No. 668 creates and designates (The Grid) and the parcels of land on which it stands as an Information Technology Center, identified as Lot 16-E, Psd-06-069682, and Lot 16-D-1, Psd-06-085931 in Iloilo City, Island of Panay,” the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said.
On the other hand, Proclamation No. 670 expanded the Lima Technology Center-SEZ in Malvar, Batangas, designating several parcels of land identified as Lot 2 Pcs-04-004370, Lot 1 Pcs-04-004370, Lot 5572 Psc-47, Lot 3 Psu-194217, Lot 2 Psu-194217, Lot 1 Psu-194217, and Lot 5575 Psc-47.
Also identified in Proclamation No. 670 are Lot 8 Ccs-04-005168-D, Lot 1-B Psd-4A-012120, Lot 5496-A Psd-04-132073, Lot 1 Psu-185706, Lot 5594-D Psd-041017-057499, and Lot 55 Psd-041017-057499, located in Malvar, Batangas, according to the PCO.
PEZA said that as of April 2023, there are 419 economic zones in the country, 297 of which are information technology parks or centers. The Department of Trade and Industry-attached agency is mandated to promote the creation of ecozones in the country to attract foreign investments.
