President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed orders expanding Gateway Business Park (GBP) and creating a new special economic zone, NDC Industrial Estate, both in Cavite.
Proclamation No. 669 signed on August 27 designates an additional 2,898 square meters of land to GBP in General Trias. The new area, with a project cost of P380 million, is expected to host a locator specializing in metalwork.
Proclamation No. 677 signed on August 29, meanwhile, designates more than 191,000 sqm of land in Barangay Langkaan II in Dasmariñas City for NDC Industrial Estate, with an estimated project cost of P343 million. The new ecozone is already set to accommodate three companies engaged in the production of soap and other detergents, renewable energy, and the customs electronics manufacturing sector.
As of June 2024, GBP hosts 28 companies, generating approximately $430 million in exports and employing over 29,000 Filipino workers, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
“The expansion of Gateway Business Park and the creation of NDC Industrial Estate are crucial steps in boosting economic activity in the region,” PEZA director general Tereso Panga said.
“These projects attract more investments and generate high-value jobs for Filipinos. In the long run, this will significantly contribute to the country’s industrial development and our goal of becoming a regional hub for manufacturing and innovation,” Panga added.
Aside from the new proclamations, PEZA has greenlit 179 new and expansion projects worth a total of P115.887 billion of investments from January to September 2024.
