President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has authorized the expansion of the West Cebu Industrial Park, a Philippine Economic Zone Authority-registered special economic zone in Balamban, Cebu province.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 710 on October 16, officially designating additional parcels of land in Barangays Arpili and Buanoy for inclusion in the industrial park.

The expansion adds 176,783 square meters or approximately 17.6 hectares to the existing ecozone, which has been a central hub of the Philippines’ shipbuilding industry for over 30 years.

Operated by Cebu Industrial Park Developers, Inc. – a joint venture between the Aboitiz Group and Japan’s Tsuneishi Group of Japan – the industrial park currently spans 540 hectares and houses 11 locators from medium to heavy industries.

Among them are some of the world’s largest shipbuilding companies, which have solidified Balamban’s status as the country’s shipbuilding capital. It hosts a variety of global enterprises, employing over 14,000 skilled Filipinos.

The West Cebu ecozone continues to enhance its operational infrastructure with its own power and water utilities, ensuring reliable service for its industrial and commercial tenants. Power is supplied by Balamban EnerZone, a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power, through a dedicated 13.8KV distribution line, ensuring consistent energy delivery to the estate.

In addition, West Cebu Estate operates its own water production facility and wastewater treatment plant, which can produce and clean up to 2,500 cubic meters of water daily.
