At least 15 personnel at the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) central office in Port Area, Manila, including administrator Robert Empedrad, have tested positive for the coranavirus disease (COVID-19).

MARINA advised stakeholders who visited the 3rd, 10th, and 11th floors of the office beginning January 18, 2021 to monitor their health conditions and have themselves tested should they manifest any symptom of the disease.

The 15 infected includes 13 personnel, one utility and one security staff.

Empedrad told media in a Viber message that he is “ok now” and that some of the infected individuals were asymptomatic.

Transactions at MARINA’s central office will continue, he said.

As of January 22, the Department of Health has recorded 509,887 COVID-19 cases in the country. A total of 17 cases were also reported to have the new variant of COVID-19, which was first reported in the United Kingdom in December last year
