Container throughput at Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) located in Misamis Oriental, Mindanao Philippines dipped 0.17% in the first 10 months of the year to 179,068 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) from 179,383 TEUs year-on-year.

But against the target of 176,451 TEUs, throughput was higher by 1.4% or 2,617 TEUs.

For October alone MCT, operated by Mindanao International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (MICTSI), a unit of International Container Terminal Services, Inc, handled 18,524 TEUs, up 2.9% from 17,999 TEUs in the same month last year.

The latest figure was also higher by 4.5% vis-à-vis the target of 17,686 TEUs.

“Right now, most importers and exporters in the region are still in a wait-and-see mode due to the very slow business activity in the region,” Phividec Seaport Department head Dante Clarito told PortCalls. Phividec overseas operations of MCT under MICTSI.

“Aside from our usual clients, there are really no additional big-time clients for the terminal right now,” Clarito explained.

MCT clients include Nestle, Kao Pilipinas and Del Monte.
