Mober is expanding its charging infrastructure for its growing fleet of commercial electric vehicles (EVs).

At the recent LogiSYM Conference 2024, chief executive officer Dennis Ng disclosed that a 3,000-square meter charging yard is being built along Macapagal Highway, Pasay City featuring AC/DC chargers for the use of the company’s electric vans and trucks.

The company already has an 800sqm charging facility also in Pasay City launched in 2023.

A second charging yard on a minimum 5,000sqm area will be developed in Laguna for public use, according to Ng.

“We chose Laguna because of its many factories and warehouses there. We want our EVs to be near these places,” he told PortCalls on the sidelines of the conference.

Mober operates an EV charging station within the premises of client Monde Nissin Corporation in Sta. Rosa Laguna but for the latter’s exclusive use.

A third charging depot and a pocket charging yard in Central Luzon is being eyed.

Mober offers same-day last-mile delivery using EVs, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability. It currently has a total fleet of 130 EVs serving client companies in Metro Manila and the Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, and Bacolod intra-cities.

The EVs operate within a range of 250 kilometers. “We’re trying to hit around 230-240 by the end of the first quarter of 2025,” Ng said.

Aside from Monde Nissin, customers include IKEA, SM Appliance Centers, Nestle, Starbucks, Kuehne+Nagel, and Maersk.

Highlighting challenges in transitioning to EV trucking, including lack of charging stations for commercial EVs, Ng disclosed plans to help mom-and-pop truckers transition to EVs by renting out EVs to them and providing access to Mober charging stations.

“We hope we can do everything by the end of 2025,” Ng said. – Lils Liwanag
