MOLMitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) will implement a Far East-Europe general rate increase (GRI) effective May 10.

The rate hike, applicable to all commodities and equipment for cargo moving from Asia to Europe, will be US$500 per TEU.

The carrier also announced a GRI of $100 per TEU for cargo moving from Europe to the Far East effective from May 1.

The Asian destinations include Southeast Asia and Japan, while the European destinations include the UK/Ireland, Scandinavia, Baltic, East and West Mediterranean, the Black Sea, and North Africa.

Meanwhile the logistics subsidiary of MOL in Thailand has earned a government certification that is expected to speed up the movement of export cargoes from the country.

MOL Logistics (Thailand) has been certified as an authorized economic operator (AEO) by Thailand’s Customs Department. The AEO will facilitate customs clearance of shipments from Thailand and streamline customs procedures such as document examination and inspections through mutual approval of the Customs Department and its counterpart in the importing nation.

In addition, group company MOL (Thailand) has already earned the same AEO certification as MOL Logistics (Thailand).

Within the MOL logistics group in Japan, the headquarters has been certified as an AEO forwarder for international transportation, and its subsidiary M.O. Air Logistics, Inc. as an authorized warehouse operator.

MOL Logistics (Thailand) is the second overseas subsidiary to acquire AEO certification, following MOL Logistics (Netherlands). A subsidiary in the U.S. acquired C-TPAT certification under a system similar to the AEO program.
