The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently delivered the 12th brand-new 4th generation trains to LRT-1 at the Light Rail Manila Corp (LRMC) Baclaran Depot in Pasay.

A total of 120 light rail vehicles or LRVs (30 train sets) from Spain and Mexico are scheduled for delivery until June 2022 to be used for the existing system and the LRT-1 Cavite Extension project of the DOTr, Light Rail Transport Authority, and the LRMC.

Each 4th generation train set consists of four LRVs, which can accommodate around 1,300 passengers. The passenger train sets have destination signs up front, digital system, and special areas for wheelchairs making them PWD-friendly.

The trains will be deployed for use on the system by next year, after completing safety checks, inspections, required test runs with minimum kilometers, and acceptance tests.
