• MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Philippines is growing its presence in the Philippines with an expanded office in Manila
• MSC eyes being one of the major shipping lines in the Philippine market, according to MSC Philippines managing director Renaud Durteste
• MSC Philippines recently introduced its new management team and announced the growth of its workforce to 70 from 44 in September 2023

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company Philippines Inc.’s expanded office in Manila serves as proof of the shipping lines’ growing presence in the Philippines.

At the sidelines of the May 27 blessing for the expanded Manila office, MSC Philippines managing director Renaud Durteste told PortCalls of the carrier’s ambition to be one of the major shipping lines in the Philippine market “as we are in all the other countries in Asia.”

He said the line is “very bullish” about the Philippines, which he noted is an important intra-Asia market.

During the event, MSC Philippines introduced its new management team, noting that its workforce has ballooned to 70 nationwide from only 44 in September 2023.

This development follows the establishment in March 2023 of MSC Philippines as MSC’s owned agency. Prior to this, a third-party handled MSC’s Philippine operations, which began in 2018.

As part of its expansion program MSC Philippines last year opened two office branches in Cebu and Cagayan De Oro, to join its offices in Manila, Davao and General Santos.

With the expansion of the Manila office, Durteste said clients can expect reliability and access to MSC’s global network, while assuring they have enough assets and capacity to handle the volume requirements of clients.

Durteste said customers can expect more from MSC in the coming years as they hope to announce more projects and services.

Currently, MSC has three direct services in the Philippines, calling seven Philippine ports: Manila, Subic, Batangas, Davao, General Santos, Cebu, and Cagayan De Oro.

In December last year, MSC expanded the coverage of its three direct services—New Origami, Kaguya and Lang Co services.
