The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) set a new record in 2025, handling 52.02 million passengers during the year, underscoring sustained demand for air travel and heightened airport activity.

New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the private operator of the country’s main gateway, said in a news release the figure was the highest annual total ever recorded for the airport.

December marked the busiest month in NAIA’s history, with 4.86 million passengers. International travelers accounted for 2.367 million, a monthly high, while domestic passengers reached 2.495 million, the second-largest monthly volume.

The figures reflect total airport activity across domestic travel, outbound and returning Filipino passengers, business travel, and connecting traffic, NNIC said.

Despite the surge, airport operations remained stable during peak periods, supported by operational improvements introduced throughout the year, the company said.

These included the rollout of new biometric immigration electronic-gates, upgrades to passenger processing systems and terminal facilities, and closer coordination among airlines, government agencies, and airport stakeholders.

“Managing higher passenger volumes requires both infrastructure and close coordination,” NNIC said. “The focus has been on improving flow, reducing bottlenecks, and ensuring the airport can handle peak demand more effectively.”

Throughout 2025, NNIC implemented a series of passenger-centric initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, safety, and the overall airport experience, while collaborating closely with government partners to facilitate smoother end-to-end travel.

NAIA serves as the Philippine’s primary aviation hub for both domestic and international operations. Under its public-private partnership contract, NNIC is responsible for the airport’s operations, maintenance, and modernization, while ownership of the facility remains with the government.
