NLEX Corp. officially broke ground for the construction of the two-kilometer North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-C5 Northlink Section 1A project designed to decongest east sections of Quezon City.
The initial section that broke ground on March 4 forms part of the entire 11.3 km NLEX-C5 Northlink Project, which stretches from Mindanao Avenue to C5/C.P. Garcia, close to Katipunan Avenue, NLEX Corp. said in a statement.
Section 1A will extend NLEX from the Mindanao Toll Plaza to Quirino Highway through an all-weather elevated expressway that will be accessible to all types of vehicles 24/7, offering a seamless route for motorists heading to and from Novaliches in Quezon City.
“We are enthusiastic about this project as it contributes to our ongoing efforts to reduce traffic congestion on local roads in the metro. At MPTC, we believe that unhindered mobility fosters better opportunities for jobs, businesses, and economic growth,” said Jose Ma. Lim, president and chief executive officer of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC). NLEX Corp. is a subsidiary of MPTC.
Lim added that the choice to build an elevated expressway was driven to reduce construction-related disruptions for local communities.
Upon completion, the project is seen to improve access to NLEX from Metro Manila’s west, east, north, and south sides.
It will also cut travel time and alleviate traffic congestion on major roads like EDSA, Commonwealth Avenue, Quirino Highway, and Mindanao Avenue, resulting in more efficient commutes and logistics operations.
The project is an integral part of the expressway’s expansion plans, aimed at improving access between NLEX, Valenzuela City, and Quezon City. NLEX Corp. said this will help stimulate business growth, create job opportunities, and contribute to the economic development of the surrounding areas.
Lim said they target to complete Section 1A in 12 months.
“During construction, we will work closely with all stakeholders to minimize disruptions. Rest assured that MPTC and NLEX are committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and sustainability,” said Lim.
