NLEX Corporation has begun major rehabilitation works on the Meycauayan River Bridge aimed at improving road surface conditions and minimizing potholes and other defects that often develop during the rainy season.
The project forms part of the tollway operator’s ongoing maintenance efforts to enhance safety and travel quality along the North Luzon Expressway, one of the country’s busiest highways.
“Please expect travel delays while this project is ongoing. We appreciate our customers’ understanding as we complete these works. This short-term inconvenience will result in smoother and safer travel along this stretch of the NLEX,” Luis Reñon, NLEX Corporation president and general manager, said in an news release.
To facilitate the bridge enhancement works, the company is implementing weekday one-lane closures, with only a single lane shut down at any given time. All four lanes of the expressway remain open to motorists during weekend rush hours.
The tollway operator said one lane of the East Service Road, between Ever Memorial Park in Lawang Bato, Valenzuela, and Libtong in Meycauayan, is temporarily serving as a compensating lane for northbound vehicles while repairs are underway.
Once the northbound rehabilitation is completed, work will shift to the southbound lanes. During this phase, a counterflow scheme will be implemented for Manila-bound motorists, while the East Service Road will continue to serve northbound traffic.
Motorists can check alternate routes on NLEX Corporation’s official social media platforms, while traffic marshals and directional signs have been deployed to guide drivers through the affected sections.
For real-time traffic updates, the company advised motorists to monitor its social media accounts or contact its 24/7 hotline at 1-35000.
The Meycauayan River Bridge improvement project is expected to be completed before Holy Week, when traffic volume typically increases due to holiday travel.
