Ocean Network Express names first owned vessel

  • Ocean Network Express (ONE) named its first owned and operated newbuilding container vessel, ONE Sparkle, in Singapore on February 14
  • ONE Sparkle has a capacity of 13,800 twenty feet equivalent units
  • It is part of a series of 20 large ammonia/methanol-ready vessels that will be built in Korea and Japan and scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026
  • The vessel comes with advanced environmental features, including methanol and ammonia-ready fuel capability
  • It also features advanced hull design optimized for improved energy efficiency
  • The Singapore-flagged ONE Sparkle is ABS-classed

Ocean Network Express (ONE) named its first owned and operated newbuilding container vessel, ONE Sparkle, in Singapore last week.

“The naming of ONE Sparkle represents another important milestone for ONE. This vessel is our first owned newbuilding, and it also showcases our commitment to sustainable shipping with its innovative design and alternative fuel capabilities. As we expand our owned fleet, these advanced vessels will play a crucial role in meeting our environmental targets while enhancing our service reliability,” ONE CEO Jeremy Nixon said in a February 14 statement.

ONE Sparkle showcases advanced environmental features, including:

  • Methanol and ammonia-ready fuel capability, enabling future conversion to these alternative fuels;
  • Advanced hull design optimized for improved energy efficiency;
  • Latest generation energy-saving devices;
  • Smart technology integration for optimal vessel performance; and
  • Shore power connection capabilities for zero-emission port stays

Once delivered, the vessel will strengthen ONE’s competitive position in the service it is deployed to, and showcase the Company’s  commitment to sustainable shipping practices, the company said.

Built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, ONE Sparkle can carry about 13,800 twenty feet equivalent (TEU) containers.

The Singapore-flagged vessel is ABS-classed and managed by OneSea Solutions Pte. Ltd, a ship management company jointly owned by ONE and Seaspan Corporation.

ONE Sparkle is part of a series of 20 large ammonia/methanol-ready vessels that will be built in Korea and Japan and scheduled for delivery in 2025 and 2026.
