Ocean Network Express (ONE) will implement a penalty fee that will be levied in the event of misdeclaration of cargo details at time of booking, the company said in a statement.

The Weight Discrepancy Charge (WDS) of U$2,000 per container on the Asia-Europe trade (westbound only) will be applicable from July 1, 2022 (booking receipt date).

The penalty fee will apply in, but not limited to, the following circumstance: Misdeclaration of cargo details at time of booking submission is detected, specifically, including but not limited to, cargo weight, which deviates more than +/- 3 ton/twenty equivalent unit from the final Bill of Lading Instruction details and Verified Gross Mass (VGM)
documentation.

In relation to the VGM amendment and misdeclaration after VGM cutoff, the applicable amendment and misdeclaration fees will apply to concerned
shipments.

ONE said the implementation of the weight discrepancy surcharge will support operational safety
for everyone in the cargo handling network, both on shore and aboard ship.

The penalty fee, it added, safeguards the commercial integrity of agreements with all customers.

To prevent administration of any misdeclaration fees, ONE advised clients to ensure they establish, check, and submit the correct cargo details at time of booking.
