Ocean Network Express (ONE) and Yusen Logistics Co., Ltd recently announced a new agreement for sustainable shipping solutions via ONE’s green shipping service, ONE LEAF+.
Under the partnership, ONE will use sustainable biofuels for propulsion, achieving up to 84% reduction in well-to-wake CO2 emissions compared to very low sulphur fuel oil.
Yusen Logistics will offer the green shipping option to its customers, enabling them to simultaneously cut their Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, the companies said in a joint statement.
“This collaboration with Yusen Logistics represents an important step in expanding the availability of green shipping solutions in Asia,” said Gilberto Santos, ONE senior vice president, global commercial and service management, said.
Santos added that through ONE LEAF+, they can offer customers the flexibility to reduce their supply chain emissions while maintaining the reliability they expect from ONE, at the same time supporting the industry’s decarbonization goals.
Kohei Omura, Yusen Logistics’ head of ocean freight forwarding group, said: “We are very pleased to sign an agreement with ONE as the first logistics company in Asia and aim to build a more sustainable future through the provision of eco-friendly shipping solutions together.”
By utilizing ONE LEAF+, Omura added that they are proud to offer more sustainable choices and contribute to the reduction of GHG emissions.
ONE LEAF+ (low emission-able freight) offers customers the chance to manage their emissions and minimize environmental impact across the value chain.

The service uses UCOME, or used cooking oil methyl ester, a non-toxic and biodegradable biofuel derived from food production.
Users can choose flexible CO2e savings from between 10% to 80%, and receive independently verified emissions reduction certificates to track their environmental impact.
ONE continues to implement its Green Strategy and Decarbonization Roadmap to drive immediate action while developing long-term solutions.
