The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) said the photo of a US advisory on inadequate security at Ninoy Aquino International Airport circulating on social media is old.
In a statement, OTS said the US Department of Homeland Security advisory was issued in December 2018 and has since been removed from US airports.
The agency noted that during the joint security assessment by the OTS and US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in August 2022, the latter commended OTS and other airport authorities for maintaining adequate security measures, emphasizing that the Philippines was the first country in Asia to have its advanced security screening technologies placed in strategic areas.
OTS also cited its continuing cooperation and coordination with the Manila International Airport Authority and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group that have led to sustained compliance with international standards.
During a recent visit to the US, OTS administrator Undersecretary Ma. O Ranada Aplasca met with TSA administrator David Pekoske to discuss joint security initiatives to enhance both countries’ aviation security.
Aplasca was also able to secure a free donation of additional security screening equipment as well as pledges from the US government in the form of capability enhancement and training assistance.
