The Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) have begun mobilizing two infrastructure projects at Iloilo International Airport with a combined budget of P190.45 million, aimed at enhancing passenger experience and operational reliability.

The first project, worth P132.90 million, focuses on the rehabilitation and improvement of the airport’s Passenger Terminal Building, CAAP said in a statement. The scope includes civil, structural, and architectural works such as roof fascia cleaning, tiling, ceiling and wall cladding, painting, waterproofing, installation of doors and windows, and toilet partitions.

The project also covers mechanical and electrical upgrades, including the replacement of air-conditioning units, fire alarm systems, ducting, lighting fixtures, and chilled water piping.

Plumbing improvements and the installation of new furniture, special equipment like escalators and elevators, as well as repairs to the passenger boarding bridge and departure conveyor, are likewise included.

A second project, valued at P37.55 million, involves the supply, installation, and commissioning of three new 600-kilowatt chillers to ensure stable temperature control within the terminal. This includes associated mechanical, electrical, and structural works.

In addition to the ongoing works, DOTr and CAAP have lined up further projects for 2025: a P141.11 million terminal rehabilitation, a P550 million asphalt overlay for the existing runway, and a separate procurement for runway overlay works amounting to P49.98 million.

Currently, the Iloilo International Airport’s PTB can accommodate 367 domestic and 360 international passengers. Upon completion of all ongoing and planned works, capacity is projected to increase to 675 domestic and 407 international passengers.

“These improvements at Iloilo International Airport are part of DOTr and CAAP’s commitment to give a better travel experience for passengers—by ensuring that airports across the country are safe, efficient, and passenger-friendly,” said CAAP director general Raul Del Rosario.
