The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is constructing an access road that will directly connect Nasipit International Port to Masao National Port Road in Agusan del Norte.

The ongoing Nasipit-Buenavista-Masao Port Coastal Road project involves opening a 5.79-kilometer (km) road and upgrading an 18.90-km road from Nasipit Road to Butuan City-Masao Port Road, with provision for drainage, slope protection, and road safety devices.

The project also includes the construction of five permanent bridges with a total length of 635.79 linear meters.

The P2.1-billion project is now 23% complete and expected to be finished in 2022.

DPWH Region 13 director Pol Delos Santos said that when the new road becomes operational, it will address the increasing traffic buildup along Butuan-Cagayan de Oro-Iligan Road (BCIR) and improve accessibility and mobility of people and goods going into and out of the province through Nasipit Port.

The Nasipit-Buenavista-Masao Port Coastal Road will also serve as an alternative route from BCIR to the Surigao-Agusan section of Daang Maharlika road.
