The San Fernando port project in Barangay Poblacion, southern Cebu will begin construction in January 2022 for completion by May 2023, the Cebu Port Authority (CPA) said in a statement.

After three failed bids, Cebu Port Commission during its November 26 board meeting awarded the contract to WTG Construction and Development Corp. WTG submitted the lowest bid at P335.01 million.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will finance port construction, estimated to cost P336.14 million. The project includes demolition of existing port and construction of roll on-roll off facility.

CPA said General Manager Leonilo Miole is set to issue a Notice of Award, sign the contract and issue the Notice to Proceed to allow the start of groundworks.

Other bidders were Vicente T. Lao Construction, BNR Construction and Development Corp and the joint venture of RCDG Construction Corp, BSP & Company Inc, and Great Swiss Metal Builders Corp.

After evaluation of bids, only the bids of WTG Construction and Development Corp and BNR Construction and Development Corp were considered eligible, CPA said.

Once complete, CPA said the San Fernando port project will form part of DOTr’s Central Spine Roro Route that aims to ensure roro facilities are in place to support trade and tourism and maintain inter-island connectivity.

The port will serve vessels sailing from San Fernando to Tubigon and Jagna in Bohol to the municipalities of Mambajao and Mahinog in Camiguin and finally to Balingoan and Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental.
