PAL is Asia Pacific’s most punctual airline in April

Philippine Airlines (PAL) was the most punctual airline in Asia Pacific in April 2025 with an 86.07% on- time performance (OTP) rating, according to London-based aviation analytics company Cirium.

PAL’s OTP was also five percentage points higher than the average OTP of 81.01% logged by the top 10 Asia Pacific airlines in April, and several points higher than all North American airlines in the same Cirium punctuality report, the flag carrier said in a statement.

Cirium tracks a flight as being on-time if the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time. The arrival data is a standard reliability metric reflecting the desire of travelers to reach their destinations on time and the need for airlines to comply with assigned airport slot times.

PAL said the April feat comes after recording a series of high OTP in previous months, being second most punctual airline in January 2025 and October 2024, and ranking third place in March 2025 as well as in November and December 2024.

Prior to this, PAL had clinched the most punctual airline spot in January 2024 with an OTP of 86.85%.

The Philippine flag carrier placed 7th in the top 10 over-all OTP standings that same year, having been ranked 8 th place in 2023.

PAL’s leading performance came at a time of “improvement in the operational landscape,” according to Cirium, coinciding “with a significant 24% global reduction in flight cancellations.”

In April 2025, PAL said it operated over 9,900 flights carrying 1.3 million passengers, with April 22 posting 337 flights, a record-high frequency count in a single-day since the 2020 pandemic.

Globally, Scandinavian Airlines System ranked first with an OTP of 88.32%. Spirit Airlines was the most punctual North American carrier with an OTP of 83.25%, Icelandair for Europe with 91.21%, Copa Airlines for Latin America with 94.01%, and Royal Jordanian for the Middle East with 92.36%.

Cirum said its April data reveals a positive trend in airline operations, with European and Latin American carriers showcasing robust performance. This coincides with a significant 24% global reduction in flight cancellations, improving from 46,486 in March to 35,333 in April.
