Philippine Airlines (PAL) has launched a new four times weekly service between Cebu and Calbayog as part of its domestic network expansion.
“This new route between Cebu and Calbayog boosts leisure and business travel, promotes economic activity, and strengthens Cebu’s role as a gateway to various parts of the Philippines and the rest of the world,” said Rabbi Vincent Ang, president of PAL Express.
The inaugural service, Flight PR 2668, was feted with a celebratory water cannon salute and cake-slicing ceremony before departing from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport last October 26, the flag carrier said in a statement.
Upon arriving at Calbayog Airport, the aircraft was also welcomed with another water cannon salute, ceremonial lei-giving, a cultural dance, and a delegation led by PAL, Department of Tourism Region 8, and the local government of Calbayog.
PR 2668 Cebu-Calbayog operates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Cebu at 07:30 am, arriving in Calbayog at 08:35 am.
On the other hand, PR 2669 Calbayog-Cebu operates every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Calbayog at 08:55 am, arriving in Cebu at 10:00 am.
In a separate statement, Mactan-Cebu International Airport operator Aboitiz InfraCapital Cebu Airport Corp. chief executive officer Athanasios Titonis said: “This new link reinforces MCIA’s role as the premier regional transfer hub, creating vital bridges between Cebu and other key destinations in the country. This is a vital route that bridges the Visayas with Samar, opening up significant opportunities for regional economic development, tourism, and trade.”
Calbayog City in Samar province is dubbed as the “City of Waterfalls” in the Philippines, an educational and religious center, and a port of call for interisland ships.
PAL said the route offers travelers convenient access to Manila and seamless connections through Cebu to other domestic destinations in the PAL network, including Bacolod, Iloilo, Puerto Princesa, Siargao, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro. International connections are also available via PAL’s Cebu and Manila hubs.
The airline is using an 86-seater De Havilland Dash 8-400 Next Generation aircraft on the Cebu-Calbayog route.
